LG Chem/CPI Lithium Ion Battery Packs

Battery Pack

Battery packs typically include battery cells, a battery management system, a high voltage junction box and interconnects housed in a mechanical enclosure. Internal wiring connects the battery cells in a desired series or parallel configuration.

The primary function of the Lithium ion battery is to safely store energy that can be used as needed during vehicle launch or acceleration. In commercial applications, the advanced battery may also supply power to run loads while the vehicle engine is not running.

LG Chem/CPI Lithium ion battery packs are typically developed for customer specific applications in the automotive or commercial industries due to varying voltage and energy demands.

Battery Management Systems

Battery Management Systems feed system information to the vehicle controllers. This is a critical function because good battery management improves battery life and assures safety.

Battery Cells

LG Chem/CPI first manufactured lithium-ion batteries in 1998. By establishing a robust mass production system, LG Chem/CPI is able to supply cells to major international companies.

With increased investments and leading-edge technology, LG Chem/CPI is poised to become one of the world's principal battery manufacturers for the HEV, PHEV, and EV industries.

LG Chem/CPI's lithium-ion battery cells provide several advantages over the competition, including:

Improved abuse-tolerance

  • Safety Reinforced Separator
  • “Mixed Cathode” Chemistry
  • Safer Packaging

Better thermal performance (Thin, Flat Package)

Higher reliability (Fewer parts, simpler manufacturing)

Improved Total Cost (Packaging, Chemistry)

Outstanding Performance

  • Power Density
  • Energy Density
  • Calendar and Cycle Life
